Brisco Road, leading to the sawmill, is the main access to Bugaboo Glacier Provincial Park, featuring wilderness hike-in camping and some of the best hiking and climbing opportunities in the world. The Bugaboos are renowned for the beauty and the rugged, adventures waiting there. Heli-skiing first began here. The road across the wetlands takes you to Steamboat Mountain and Westside Road. Both eventually lead to the Cartwright Lakes fishing areas and Invermere. Watch for industrial traffic and be aware these are backcountry roads that aren’t built for car travel. Visiting the backcountry has many rewards in terms of scenery, wildlife viewing and a great sense of getting away. Always let someone know where you are going and when you expect to be back as some areas are lightly travelled. Five kilometers north of Brisco is the historic Galena Church. Distance to Invermere: 1/2 hour north |
